Form 1099 MISC reports payments for services performed by individuals who are not treated as employees. Miscellaneous income includes payments made to subcontractors’ wages, rental payments, prizes, awards, or substitute payments in lieu of dividends. A 1099 MISC Form, reporting miscellaneous income, must be efiled to the IRS and a copy must be sent to the recipient. Both forms must arrive by their respective deadlines. January 31, 2020 is the due date to distribute copies of Form 1099 MISC to recipient. If you choose to file by paper, then the deadline is March 2, 2020 for the 2019 Tax Year. The 1099 MISC electronic filing deadline is on March 31, 2020.
Note: IRS requires Form 1099 MISC to be reported with the IRS & distribute recipient copies on or before January 31, 2020, when nonemployee compensation (NEC) payments are reported in box 7. For a 1099 MISC Form with the amount reported in box 8 (substitute payment in lieu of dividends or interests) or in box 14 (Gross proceeds paid to an attorney), the deadline is February 17, 2020.
