Information Collected

TaxBandits collects the following types of information to provide you with a seamless solution to e-file your tax returns.

  • Personal information

    Your name, alias, Social Security Number (SSN), mailing address, email address, phone number, date of birth, driving license number, passport number, unique personal identifier, online identifier, or other similar identifiers.

  • Personal information (Categories listed in the California Customer Records statute - Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e)).

    A name, signature, Social Security Number, physical characteristics or description, address, telephone number, passport number, driver’s license or state identification card number, bank account number, credit card number, debit card number, or any other financial information, and health insurance information.

  • Protected classes under California or federal law

    Age, national origin, citizenship, marital status, and sex (including gender, gender identity, gender expression).

  • Tax Information

    We collect all the necessary information to complete your tax returns (according to the IRS guidelines). This may include your business name, DBA/trade name, Employer Identification Number, Other TIN types (ITIN or Foreign TIN), Payments made, tax withholdings, recipient details, and more. For detailed guidance on tax information collected, please refer to the IRS instructions of the respective tax return.

  • Commercial information

    Records of personal property, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.

  • Biometric information

    Photos and videos, as well as data, such as face scans and other measurements, extracted from the same for authentication or compare the end-users face to identity document photos - some of this extracted data may be considered biometric data and/or sensitive Personal Data under applicable data protection laws in certain jurisdictions.

  • Technical Information

    When you interact with our site(s), our system may collect information such as your IP address and browser information through cookies or other means. For detailed information about cookies, check out our cookies policy.

  • Feedback and Surveys

    To ensure we provide you with a seamless service, we often collect your feedback through community discussions, calls, emails, chats, and other interactions, such as surveys on our sites.

  • Payment Information

    When you pay for our services, we will collect your credit card information, such as credit card number and expiration date. However, we do not store this information on our end, and instead we use the services provided by the authorized payment gateway to authenticate your identity and approve the payment.

  • Geolocation data

    Physical location or movements.

Information We Don’t Collect

Race, color, ancestry, religion or creed, marital status, medical condition, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, genetic, physiological, behavioral, biological characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.


Information Use

TaxBandits uses your information primarily to provide you with a personalized Internet or mobile application e-filing experience that delivers the resources, services, and information most relevant and helpful to our users. We do not share any customer information provided with others unless explicitly stated in this Privacy Policy or when required by law.

As part of the tax filing process, the IRS and State Tax agencies require TaxBandits to request the email address of the person electronically filing a tax return. If an email address is collected, it is provided by TaxBandits to only the appropriate IRS/State Tax agencies. As a method for detecting fraud in connection with e-filing, the IRS also requires TaxBandits to provide the Internet Protocol information (IP address) of the computer from which the return originated.

We also use the information we collect to monitor and investigate fraud, identity theft, and other illegal activity and to personalize and improve the Services.

TaxBandits values the privacy and security of consumer information, and unless we have explicit consumer consent and are allowed by Section 301-7216 of the Internal Revenue Service’s code,

We do not:

  • Sell or rent consumer personal information;
  • Use consumer personal information to market non-tax preparation products or services to consumers or
  • Share consumer personal information with outside third parties for marketing purposes.

Information Transfer

The data we collect from you may be transferred to:

  • Government Agencies - The data reported on your tax returns are transferred to the taxing authorities, law enforcement, and governmental agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Social Security Administration (SSA), Financial Crimes Enforcement Network(FinCEN), and State Agencies, whichever is applicable.
  • Recipients - If you opt for Postal Mailing or Online Access services, the information reported on your form will be shared with the respective individuals/entities.
  • Print Service Providers - If you opt for Postal Mailing, the information reported on your form will be shared with our print service providers.
  • Service Providers - Vendors, consultants, and other service providers who are required to use and disclose the information only to perform services on our behalf.
  • Sale/Partnership - In connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by another company.

We may also share aggregated or de-identified information which cannot reasonably be used to identify you. Examples may include but are not limited to – the total number of users served by a TaxBandits product/service, general age group ratios, summary reports of tax preparation practices across large groups of customers, and other statistical data relating to tax preparation and electronic filing service.


Information Retention

TaxBandits will retain all the information collected for a necessary time frame needed to offer our services to you. Also, the IRS mandates that all tax-filing information must be retained for 7 years from the date of filing and TaxBandits adheres to the same.


Chatbots

TaxBandits employs an AI ChatBot to assist you with questions you may have during or related to your filings. While interacting with the ChatBot, it may collect details from you as needed to provide accurate responses.

While our ChatBot is designed to provide accurate responses, we always recommend that you double-check the information and verify your filing requirements. TaxBandits does not provide tax advice, as we are not tax preparers. Any information gathered through our application is for informational purposes only, and the client is ultimately responsible for all data provided to complete the tax filings.


Third-Party Services

TaxBandits employs various third-party service providers and has partnered with some to expand our services.

  • Our services may contain links to third-party websites. Each link is clearly identified and will direct you from TaxBandits's website to a third-party site.
  • We do not direct or oversee the policies, procedures, or other practices for companies other than TaxBandits.
  • We do not endorse the products and services that are offered by third-party companies.
  • Some of these third-party sites may collect information about you or request sensitive, personal information from you.
  • If you access a third-party site via a link, you will be subject to the policies and procedures that have been established by the third party. We encourage you to review their privacy policies to learn more about what information is collected, how it is used, and how it is stored.
  • You can choose to permit or restrict third-party websites that integrate with our services. If you elect, you may enter your credentials to permit files to be imported to TaxBandits. In doing so, TaxBandits may receive your username and email address for such third-party websites, along with additional information that the application has elected to make available to TaxBandits to facilitate the integration.
  • The social media icons (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly through our Services. Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing them.

Note: Even if you opt out of receiving these marketing-related emails, we will still contact you regarding your account information, feedback or research purposes, legal notices, account security, bug alerts, and/or changes that may impact your ability to use TaxBandits products and services.


Information Access and Deletion

Upon request (see “For Further Information” section), TaxBandits will provide you with information about whether we hold any of your personal information. You can access, correct, or deactivate your account information by visiting www.TaxBandits.com and selecting "Sign In" or by contacting us at the email address provided above. In certain jurisdictions, you have the right to request access and receive details regarding the personal information we maintain about you, even if you are not a registered user, to update and correct inaccuracies in your personal information or to delete the information. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe.

  • If you delete or deactivate your account, you may no longer be able to access any of the information associated with that account, including the information you provided through associated applications or other Services.
  • If you choose an available option to deactivate your account, rather than deleting your account, we retain your account information in our archives even though it is no longer accessible online. As per IRS requirements, we retain all printed or e-filed returns and related information as necessary to comply with our legal and contractual obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
