What is IRS Form 1095-C?

IRS Form 1095-C is filed with the IRS by the applicable large employer (ALE) who offers health coverage and enrollment in health coverage for their employees. Employers with 50 or more full time employees are considered ALEs.

Employers use 1095-C Form to report the information required under section 6056. Also it is used to determine whether an ALE Member owes a payment under the employer shared responsibility provisions under section 4980H. The copy of Form 1095-C must be sent to the employees. When is the due date to file Form 1095-C?

The IRS supports both paper and electronic filing for the tax year 2020. The due date for filing Form 1095-C is given below.

For the tax year 2020, there is a change in the 1095-C due date. New lines and codes are also released by the IRS. Usually, the deadline to furnish employee copies is January 31. This year, the deadline is extended to March 02, 2021.

In addition to the existing codes, new seven codes to be entered on Line 14 of Form 1095-C have been added. Filers can choose the appropriate code while filing to report Individual Coverage HRAs.

Line 17 is added in Form 1095-C for 2020

This line is a new addition to enter the ZIP code used by the employer to determine the affordability. This line has to be filled only if the employer is provided with an Individual Coverage HRAs. If you have used an employee's primary residence location for calculating affordability, use code 1L, 1M, or 1N based on their health coverage. If an employee's primary work location is used for calculation, enter codes such as 1O, 1P, or 1Q based on their health coverage.
