What Is Form 8300?
If you or your business receives a payment of $10,000 in cash (or more), the total amount must be reported to BSA / FinCEN using Form 8300. Form 8300 must be filed for each separate transaction that exceeds the $10,000 in cash limit and copies must be sent to the payer before January 31.
What is the deadline to File Form 8300?
Generally, a business must file Form 8300 within 15 days after they receive the cash. If the 15th day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday the business must file the report on the next business day.
What happens if you fail to report 8300?
A minimum penalty of $25,000 may be imposed if failed to report. These violations may also be subject to criminal prosecution which, upon conviction, may result in imprisonment of up to 5 years or fines of up to $250,000 for individuals and $500,000 for corporations or both.
