FAQs on Form 990 Series

What if my organization fails in the Public Support Test?

If your organization fails the Public Support Test, you can retain its exempt status (section 501(c)(3) status) by changing its role as a supporting organization for organizations which are public-supported. If your organization doesn't change its role as a supporting organization, it would be classified as a private foundation and contributions are subject to much more restricted deductions.
